The grill slats are used to cover the discharge air area of the heater for safety purposes. They allow air to flow from the heater, but enclose the opening so electrical components are not openly accessible. No maintenance or cleaning of the system is necessary. However, if you wish to remove the grill slats for cleaning you can do so by removing the front painted panel, hinging open the right side panel, and sliding the grill slats out. Steffes recommends using a nonabrasive household cleaner such as Soft Scrub with Bleachâ„¢ brand cleanser or equal.
NOTE: If unable to clean discoloration off the grill slats, it is possible that the discharge air is exceeding normal operating temperatures. Complete the discharge air checkout procedure to ensure proper operation.
